Description

Canada Drones is very proud to present you the Observer-6, our first in-house designed and produced Hexacopter.

After years of experience with the other frames available on the market the decision to create our own custom frame from the ground up was quite easy.
Canada Drones teamed up with Andre Verville from Kildir Technologies to create what is in our mind the perfect industrial platform to do land survey and inspection of any kind.
The concept and design went through many iterations but the end goal was to produce a light frame strong enough to be called a TOOL and still powerful enough to lift a DSLR/FLIR/NIR/GoPro/... camera

Now sold with foldable legs (see below)

It can easily be used to do:

  • Police collision reports
  • Search and Rescue
  • Coast guard recon missions
  • Land surveys
  • Aerial mapping
  • Aerial Photo / Video
  • Agriculture Inspection
  • Construction site monitoring

Basic requirement were dictated by you the customers:
  • Always asking for something better than carbon fiber (it's nice, strong but when it breaks it's a mess and nothing survive!)
  • Light but not fragile
  • Easy to use (still this should not be consider a beginner project, we expect you to have prior RC pilot skills... a DJI Phantom is a great tool to get you up to speed)
  • Vibration isolation (we did many levels of it!)
  • Able to mount any brand of Flight controllers, Camera, Gimbals, accessories...
  • Ready to fly and configured before delivery (Tested!)
  • Foldable to some extend (still requires tools but it does fold for ease of transportation)
  • Honest design, made locally, with pride!
  • Affordable (this doesn't mean cheap parts!)
  • Easy to service / upgrade / work on... If you know multicopter you know they crash... you will need to fix them... this frame is design with that in mind)
  • Able to lift up to 5kg
  • Autonomous flight capabilities (well this is not dictated by the frame but the flight controller, we will be using the proven APM2.6 in most builds but DJI flight controllers can also be selected)
  • Endurance over 16 minutes (yes some hexa out there cannot fly for more than 8-9 minutes with a full load...)
  • Good customer support (hey you know me by now.. if not... look around, I have happy customers!)

Keep in mind this frame will evolve and see some nice iterations as we go through more feedback. upgrade kits will be available in time if the design evolves too much from this form factor.

More pictures and videos still to come, there is some pretty nice projects where the OB-6 is currently used to test and showcase the product... stay tuned I will update when ever I am allowed to use their pictures.

Flight path from an APM 2.6 (or Pixhawk) with Mission planner. Shown in cloud point based picture taken and GPS coordinate.

More on the fantastic Mission planner here

Resulting model exported from PIX4D (all above image stitched together and 3D model extracted) Very impressive!

Produce super precise maps that can be used to measure the ground with elevation (this is the magic again of Pix4D software, but it took the images taken with the OB-6 without any pre-processing done)

What's included for that price? (beside my eternal gratitude!)
1 x Observer OB-6 frame with retract landing gear
6 x 3515 650kv motors
6 x 25A ESC with SimonK firmware
6 x 15 inches Carbon fiber props (yeah had to use that stuff somewhere!)
1 x 3DRobotic APM2.6 (no clones!) Due to popular request we will also offer the option to select DJI Naza V2 or DJI A2 and corresponding GPS... Just put a note in the order and we will contact you with updated cost.
1 x uBlox GPS with Compass
1 x 900mHz Telemetry kit (air module and ground module) for ground station control (see here for all Autonomous capabilities)
2 x 5100mAh Kypom LiPo (good start but you always need more of these!)
1 x FrSky Taranis PLUS Radio Controller with Receiver
Fully assembled and tested with all above components, special mode setting created for you in the Taranis radio controller
1 x Graupner ULTRAMAT AC/DC EQ DC:80W,AC:50W CHARGER

What is not included... (and it's not to be cheap... it's just that this depends on your needs)
Brushless Gimbal (it depends on your camera needs)
Your camera
Video link equipment (many options available, but we suggest this package)

Below are some older pictures showing the old legs, we now offer the new foldable landing gear as shown here:

Shown with APM 2.6, Telemetry 900mhz, Frsky Receiver, GPS/Compass on Foldable mast
No mess of wires, ESCs are located under the main plate and are still easy to access.

Look I am flying! (2 x 5100mAh are used here to get 16 minutes of flight with a Sony camera and Brushless gimbal)

Naked Shot... you do have a nice frame! (you can see vibration isolation motor mount, if you do cut the vibration at the source you have a lot less to deal with later on)

Did not had any pictures on hands of it folded (all my units are in the field under tests and missions... so here you see prototype #7 I think... yes did did several iterations!)

Did not expect so much quality! September 10, 2014

Purchase this OB-6 for land survey, not only it worked right out of the box perfectly but CanadaDrones (Dany) support and level of knowledge is exceptional. I understand that the kit was put together by Andre in Quebec and that gentleman attention to details is amazing.

For anyone looking for a solid hexacopter to use as a tool this is one to consider. Oh and the paint job is very nice, this is no China products!
